Frequently Asked Questions
The section symbol (§) is Minecraft's native formatting character. The ampersand (&) is a common alternative used by plugins because the section symbol is difficult to type. Most server plugins automatically convert & to the section symbol.
Color codes in chat typically require a permissions plugin to grant color permissions, or a chat formatting plugin that processes the codes. Vanilla Minecraft doesn't process typed color codes in chat without server-side support.
Gradient text requires hex color support (Minecraft 1.16+ and compatible plugins). Each character gets a slightly different hex color code. Our generator automatically calculates gradient colors and generates the full formatted string.
The &k code creates obfuscated (magic) text that rapidly cycles through random characters. It's often used for decorative effects or mysterious messages. Use &r to reset and return to normal text.
Bedrock Edition uses the same basic color code system (§0-f), but some formatting codes and hex colors may not be supported. The core 16 colors work consistently across Java and Bedrock editions.
